Charlie Atwill has over 15 years of investment experience working with retirees, physicians, attorneys, business owners, qualified retirement plans, family limited partnerships, and trusts.
In November 2005, he formed AFCG to provide fee-only investment management and financial planning services. Prior to starting AFCG, he practiced as a financial advisor with Advest, Inc., a regional broker-dealer that was acquired by Merrill Lynch.
Charlie is a member of The National Assocation of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), the country's leading professional association of Fee-Only financial advisors. As a NAPFA-Registered Financial Advisor, he is broadly trained to bring together and apply the separate disciplines comprising personal finance--income tax, financial position and cash flow, retirement preparation, estate planning, investments, and risk management.
Charlie has been featured in the Financial Adviser blog of The Wall Street Journal discussing the topic of Austrian School economics and investing. A link to the article is available here.
He is active in the community providing pro bono financial planning services to cancer patients through the Legal Information Network for Cancer (LINC). He currently serves on the finance committee for LINC. Charlie is also a member and past-president of the Financial Planning Association of Central Virginia.
Charlie received his B.A. from Hampden-Sydney College in 1992.
Away from the office, Charlie enjoys spending time with his family, sailing, reading, playing golf, and taking an occasional trip to one of Virginia’s trout streams. He and his wife, Amelia, live in Richmond with their daughter, Pierce.
